3 weeks into a 6 month travelling adventure, and I finally find myself with a bit of time to sit down and write. 3 Cities, many small towns, and an extremely beautiful mountain range under our belts, and we are already richer for the experience, figuratively speaking of course! 😉
As I type, we are sitting in a warm and cozy log cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains. Almost freezing point outside, and the kids are rampaging through the house and out onto the deck, letting in gusts of mighty cold air as a constant reminder of where we are and the adventure we are undertaking. It is freezing, and it is autumn! What we are voluntarily walking into is temperatures much much colder than this, with a 3 & 4 year old in tow, for most of our 6 month adventure. Sometimes I have to remind myself why we are doing this. It’s definitely not to increase our material wealth, it’s not for a romantic getaway (see children’s ages above), and it’s not for the culture. Sitting here is the perfect reminder that it’s the lure of an unknown land, with mountains, lakes and views unlike any we have experienced. Beauty, natural beauty… and as I gaze out our cabin windows I see a view that makes this cold and unknown ahead of us seem completely worth while… I hope 😉
